Nevada Prelicensing Requirements

Individual Resident Producer Requirements

To qualify for a resident Nevada state insurance producer license, the applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

Be 18 years of age or older
Be a resident of the state of Nevada
Complete an approved prelicensing course of study (see prelicense requirements below)
Pass a written examination and file a license application online
Submit a set of fingerprints

PreLicense Education Requirements (PLE)

Applicants must complete prelicense education (PLE) for each major line of authority (LOA), as follows:

40-hours Nevada Life & Health Insurance
40-hours Nevada Property & Casualty Insurance
20-hours Nevada Life Insurance
20-hours Nevada Health Insurance
20-hours Nevada Property Insurance
20-hours Nevada Casualty Insurance

PLE Provider

NOTE: 1st Academy School of Insurance (Las Vegas, NV; provider 108078) is the provider of record for all Nevada internet-based prelicense education courses published and distributed by Prelicense.com (a service of WebCE). Upon successful completion of the course final exam, proctored by a disinterested third-party monitor, the student will receive a certificate of course completion from 1stAcademy School of Insurance, which will also report course completions to Sircon (thus making the student eligible for a Nevada insurance producer’s license upon passing the Nevada insurance license exam).

State Candidate Handbook

Before making an exam reservation applicants should thoroughly review the Nevada Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook, which contains the exam content outlines and important information regarding eligibility and the examination and licensing application process.

PLE Course Delivery

Per Nevada PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the prelicense education course sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.
Applicants must read each lesson and pass the end-of-chapter quizzes with a 70% or higher to proceed to the next lesson.

PLE Course Exam

Passing Score: Applicants must pass the PLE final exam with a 70% or higher to receive a certificate of completion.
Exam Proctor Requirements: The final exam must be monitored by a disinterested third party. Proctors must not serve for examinations of family members, relatives, or dependents; employers or supervisors; employees or subordinates; partners, joint ventures, co-owners, or business associates; or for anyone in whom the proctor or instructor has an economic or other interest in assuring the successful outcome of the examination.

Certificate of Completion

1st Academy School of Insurance (Las Vegas, NV; provider 108078), the provider of record provides online certificate of completions. An applicant must meet Nevada’s PLE requirements before a certificate of completion is issued. Certificates of completion are valid for two years from the date of course completion.

PLE course completions are reported electronically to the Nevada Division of Insurance daily.

Materials Needed to Present at Exam Site

Candidates must present two forms of current signature identification. The name on the identification must exactly match the name on the registration. The primary identification must be government-issued and photo-bearing with a signature, and the secondary identification must contain a valid signature. Identification must be in English.

Exams and Fees: A list of Insurance License Exams and exam fees can be found on the back cover of the State of Nevada Insurance Licensing Information Bulletin. Currently, the exam fee is $55.00 for single line exams and $65.00 for combo exams.

State Exam Passing Score

Applicants must pass the state licensing exam with an 80% or higher to file a license application.

Candidates may only call MorphoTrust, USA™ at 866-761-8069 to make fingerprint reservation. Pearson VUE can not make the reservation for you. WALK-IN digital fingerprints will be available at IdentoGO by MorphoTrust, USA ™locations only NOT Pearson VUE test centers. Click here to obtain the Fingerprint Background Waiver.

New Resident Producer Requirements

New residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state may not be required to complete prelicense education as long as the applicant was previously licensed for the same lines of authority. The license applications and fees must be received within 90 days after the cancellation of the license. The applicant must provide a letter of clearance to document the cancellation date.
